Got A Girl Crush on 25-year-old Australian Singer/Songwriter, Courtney Barnett
So you’re sitting at a bar and minding your own business and you overhear someone telling a story. Despite your best intentions to not be nosy, this person’s voice, their delivery, everything draws you in. You hear a subtle punchline in their mundale tale and before you even turn to look at their face you know you want them to be your new best friend.
No, I didn’t meet Courtney Barnett this week, but this is the best way I can describe how I felt when I discovered her unpretentiously droll music via CMJ coverage. Apparently I missed many an opportunity to see her live, delaying our inevitable bestfriendship. I’m not worried, Courtney. We’ll find each other one day.
Got a Girl Crush On: Paige Smith and her Urban Geodes
Artist/Graphic Designer, Paige Smith has been a busy little bee installing these paper gems all around Los Angeles for her latest art project called ‘GEODE’.
The 3D paper sculptures are placed into existing spaces to mirror natural mineral formations. If you follow the link here, it’ll take you to a map the artist provides so that you can hunt down one of these urban treasures yourself.
Help Anne dance her way onto The Ellen Show by tweeting @TheEllenShow with the hashtags #ellensdancedare! (p.s. Anne is @AnneMarsen). The whole Girl Walk team will be down in LA this weekend for their premiere at Space15Twenty on Saturday, 2/25!
Around hour-29-or-so of the trip, and after 6+ months of editors-block, I got a sudden burst of inspiration to make a video dedicated to Ellen with some friends I made while stretching in the game room.
And now I prepare for phase two… Starting today, I’m going to make a different dance video for each day of this week, each in a different spot of Los Angeles, all leading up to the Hollywood screening on February 25th! Hopefully (with your help!) they will catch Ellen’s attention and I will get to dance with her!
